Matthew 27:45-56

45 ^aNow from the ^{▼▼ I.e. 12 noon}sixth hour darkness ^{▼▼ Or occurred}fell upon all the land until the ^{▼▼ I.e. 3 p.m.}ninth hour. 46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, ^e“Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” 47 And some of those who were standing there, when they heard it, began saying, “This man is calling for Elijah.” 48 ^fImmediately one of them ran, and taking a sponge, he filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink. 49 But the rest of them said, ^{▼▼ Lit Permit that we see}“Let us see whether Elijah will come to save Him ^{▼▼ Some early mss read And another took a spear and pierced His side, and there came out water and blood (cf Jhn.19.34)}.” 50 And Jesus ⁱcried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. 51 ^jAnd behold, ^kthe ^{▼▼ Or curtain}veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and ^mthe earth shook and the rocks were split. 52 The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the ^{▼▼ Or holy ones}saints who had ^ofallen asleep were raised; 53 and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered ^pthe holy city and appeared to many. 54 ^qNow the centurion, and those who were with him ^rkeeping guard over Jesus, when they saw ^sthe earthquake and the things that were happening, became very frightened and said, “Truly this was ^{▼▼ Or a son of God or a son of a god

55 ^vMany women were there looking on from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee while ^{▼▼ Or caring for Him
,} ^xministering to Him. 56 Among them was ^yMary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and ^zthe mother of the sons of Zebedee.
